“The Seven Youths of Ephesus”
The Seven Sleepers of Ephesus
Maximilian, Jamblichus, Martinian, John, Dionysius, Exacustodianus and Antoninus · Confessors under Decius
Seven young men of Ephesus who refused to sacrifice under Decius, hid in a cave above the city, and were sealed inside; and who, the tradition says, woke about two hundred years later in the reign of Theodosius the Second, at a moment when the Church was arguing over whether the body rises. The Church commemorates them as a sign rather than as a biography.
