“Myron the Wonderworker”

A Cretan farmer who worked his own land and gave most of what it produced away, and who was made bishop of the island for it. The story Crete has kept about him is the one where he caught thieves in his own threshing floor, found they could not lift the sacks they had filled, helped them load the grain onto their backs, and told them not to tell anyone.
His life
He was a landowner and a farmer of Crete, married, of good reputation, who worked his fields himself and gave away most of the harvest, so that the poor of the district came to his threshing floor as a matter of course.
One night he found men in the threshing floor filling sacks from his grain. The account says they were struck motionless and could not lift what they had taken. Myron helped them load it onto their shoulders, sent them off with it, and asked them to say nothing about it, and the thing came out later because they could not keep quiet.
He was ordained and in time made bishop of the island, in the years after the peace of the Church, and served into very great old age. The other account Crete tells of him is the crossing of the river Triton in flood, which he is said to have commanded to stand still until his people had passed, and then given leave to run again.
He reposed about the year 350, over a hundred years old. The Church keeps his memory on the eighth of August, and the town of Agios Myron in Crete carries his name.
